Acupuncture effective for perimenopausal depression and insomnia

Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for perimenopausal women experiencing depression and insomnia. In a study conducted by Australian and Chinese researchers, 70 perimenopausal women with comorbid perimenopausal depression (PMD) and perimenopausal insomnia (PMI) were randomly assigned to receive real-acupuncture (RA) or sham-acupuncture (SA) treatments.

After the end of the treatment period and at eight-week post-treatment follow-up, the RA group showed a significantly greater reduction in insomnia scores compared to the SA group.
